Albums

Toto's discography consists of 13 studio albums and four live albums. There are also compilations. In addition to releasing original music, Toto has also done collaborations with other artists and on soundtracks for films. Toto has won numerous Grammy Awards for their work.

Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as session work for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs' 1975 album Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in the year 1976 in the wake of the collaboration.

Toto's third album, Turn Back, marked an abrupt departure from the progressive sound of their earlier efforts and was criticized for the lack of hit singles. In 1985 the group's lead singer Fergie Fredericksen quit The band held auditions to choose a new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the group recorded their 1986 album Fahrenheit.

Shem Von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as the drummer during the tour in support of the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live set titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour and an interview with the band.

Toto has released a variety of music videos. The group has released a number of compilation videos and DVDs. The most popular video for the band is "Africa", which has more than a billion views on YouTube. The video takes place in a library, and shows the band performing in front of a stack of books about Africa.

In 1998, Toto started working on a project entitled Old Is New. This album included three new tracks, as well as a number of finished recordings of songs from the past. The album was a hit all over the world and the band went on a world tour to promote the album.
